Our Process

How the work moves from drawings to handoff

  1. Review. Review roof plans, truss or rafter layout, bearing points, girder loads, openings, slopes and current revisions, so you get a buildable set with bearing lines and open questions marked.
  2. Verify. Verify wall elevations, bearing lines and stud posts before roof components are delivered or lifted, so you catch a dimensional conflict before it becomes a site delay.
  3. Set. Stage members in the approved erection sequence without overloading incomplete framing, so your loads land on the supporting structure in the designed order.
  4. Frame. Set trusses to the supplier layout or frame rafters, ridges, hips and valleys to the issued design, so your next layout starts from a stable control line.
  5. Coordinate. Install permanent bracing, ties and connectors required by the design before removing erection restraint, so you can correct openings, blocking and service zones while access is clear.
  6. Release. Frame roof openings and concentrated loads without unapproved truss cuts, so you get visible, documented work ready for inspection and handoff.

Why Us

Why Timberr is different on this scope

We coordinate the roof plan, truss package, girder reactions and wall posts before erection. The crew arrives with a lift sequence tied to the actual layout, and every nonconforming member is documented back to the supplier.

Timberr is licensed, insured and WSIB-covered, carries a 5.0 rating across 39 Google reviews, and the completed roof and truss framing work is backed by our workmanship warranty. The same team that reviews the risk remains accountable through the handoff.

How It Gets Built

More about roof and truss framing

Understanding roof and truss framing

The systems and conditions that change the work

The systems and conditions that change the work

Site-framed rafters use OBC span tables selected by species, grade, spacing, roof load and support conditions. That means your engineer may need to settle the load path before material is ordered.

Prefabricated roof trusses use an engineered design and layout, and field holes or notches are prohibited unless that design permits them. That means your quote carries the matching member layout, connector schedule and site handling.

Girder trusses create concentrated reactions that require stud posts sized from the Code tables or structural design. That means you get the route supported by the drawings instead of a choice made from habit.

Hip and valley roofs require members and support under 9.23.14 rather than being treated as repeated common rafters. That means your following trades inherit that system's spacing, openings and limits.

What belongs in the scope

What belongs in the scope

Part 9 roof framing remains prescriptive only where species, grade, spacing, span, loading and building conditions fit the OBC tables; other roof systems require Part 4 design. So the roof-truss boundary is fixed before award. Ontario recognizes plated wood trusses as lightweight pre-engineered construction, so their design cannot be replaced by field judgment. That means your quote can name exclusions and owner-supplied items instead of hiding them.

Roof area and slope change member, sheathing and access quantities, so measured roof-truss quantities control the takeoff. Hip, valley, dormer and intersecting-roof geometry adds unique members and concentrated supports, which means you can compare the selected member schedule rather than a generic allowance. Truss count and girder reactions change layouts, posts, connectors and lifting, so roof-truss coordination is visible before approval.

The mistake we want found before the work begins

The mistake we want found before the work begins

A truss that misses its bearing cannot be made to fit with a saw. One field cut takes the member outside its approved design and turns a delivery problem into an engineering repair while the crane and crew wait. We stop the lift and obtain the truss designer's answer instead of modifying the member on site.

Member and fastening decisions that affect the result

Member and fastening decisions that affect the result

Structural lumber for rafters, roof joists and beams must carry an accepted grade mark. That means your installed member must match the grade or product shown in the design. Installed framing lumber must contain no more than 19 percent moisture, which means you can verify the material condition before it is enclosed.

Roof spans depend on species, grade, depth, spacing and snow-load table rather than one province-wide rafter span, which means your bearing and connection detail must preserve that capacity. Rafters and roof joists require end bearing under the applicable OBC support provisions, which means you can trace the fastening requirement to the actual assembly.

Plans, sequencing, and site decisions

The hold point and the trades waiting after it

The hold point and the trades waiting after it

Ontario's Part 9 notice point includes substantially complete structural framing and HVAC rough-ins, which means your sequence must reach that visible hold point before finishes. Ontario prescribes an inspection response within 2 days after notice, excluding weekends, holidays and office closures, which means you can plan the following trade around the stated response.

Your municipality sets its own requirements for the structural framing inspection. Some require the structure to be weather-tight, which means your mechanical and electrical work may have to be complete before the framing review. Roofing inherits panel spacing, edge support and roof geometry, while mechanical trades inherit only approved roof openings, which means you avoid reopening work the municipality needed to see.

Planning the work across the GTA

Planning the work across the GTA

Ontario sets the building rules while the municipality administers the permit and inspection for the address. That means your approved set must settle site-framed rafters before work is covered. Your site decides the delivery, storage and lifting route for that system. So you get a different sequence for a clear subdivision lot, a tight infill lane or an occupied commercial unit.

What to send for a useful quote

What to send for a useful quote

Request roof plans, slopes, sections, bearing lines, opening details and all revisions, which means you give the estimator the current design basis. Request the truss layout, individual truss designs, girder reactions, bracing and connector details, which means your takeoff can include the scheduled members and openings. Add the address, permit status and target start window, so you can separate what is ready to price from what still needs a decision.

Comparing framing quotes?

Ours names what we frame, what another trade supplies, and what has to be settled before we mobilise. Compare the scope, not two totals built on different assumptions.

FAQ

Roof and Truss Framing FAQ

Will roof and truss framing hold my construction schedule?

It stays on schedule when truss design, bearing conditions and crane access are confirmed before delivery. A roof package cannot be sequenced around an unresolved girder reaction.

What usually delays roof and truss framing after mobilisation?

Field-altered trusses and missing girder posts stop the work fastest. We verify both before loading the structure.

What do the following trades inherit from this work?

The enclosure crew receives a braced, supported roof frame with sheathing gaps and openings ready for the approved weathering sequence.

Who owns a framing conflict found on site?

Timberr owns documenting the conflict, protecting the affected work and getting it to the responsible designer or consultant. We do not hide an unapproved field change inside the handoff.

Not sure the drawings are ready?

Most are not, and that is fine. Send what you have and we will tell you what is missing before it costs you a week on site.
