A flush beam fits within the floor or ceiling depth and can require joist cutting, hangers and engineered connections. That means your engineer may need to settle the load path before material is ordered.
A dropped beam sits below joists and changes the finished clear height but may avoid framing every joist into its side. That means your quote carries the matching member layout, connector schedule and site handling.
A wood beam can be built up within OBC span-table limits or specified as LVL, LSL or PSL by the structural design. That means you get the route supported by the drawings instead of a choice made from habit.
A steel beam is a separate designed option and requires the support, connections and corrosion protection shown on the design. That means your following trades inherit that system's spacing, openings and limits.
Your municipality explicitly identifies removing a loadbearing wall or changing structural framing as work requiring a building permit, so the load-bearing-wall-removal boundary is fixed before award. Part 11 governs material alteration of the existing structural system. Its performance cannot be reduced by the work, which means your quote can name exclusions and owner-supplied items instead of hiding them.

Ontario's prescribed notice includes substantial completion of Part 9 structural framing and HVAC rough-ins, which means your sequence must reach that visible hold point before finishes. Ontario prescribes an inspection response within 2 days after notice, excluding weekends, holidays and office closures, which means you can plan the following trade around the stated response.
Approved structural content prepared by an engineer is identified in municipal permit guidance with professional responsibility documentation. That means your mechanical and electrical work may have to be complete before the framing review. Electrical, plumbing and HVAC routes must be relocated or framed through only where the approved member details permit. That means you avoid reopening work the municipality needed to see.
Ontario sets the building rules while the municipality administers the permit and inspection for the address.
